Hungry links: food pyramid for athletes, Duesseldorf, and more
I've decided to be more selective about the links I post here, so instead of relying on del.icio.us auto-posting, I'll be doing it manually and less frequently. This allows me to be more verbose in my comments than 255 characters, and you all to comment if you want too.
So, here we go for this snowy Saturday morning:
- Swiss experts food pyramid for athletes. It's believed to be the first ever one geared to high performance athletes. It can be downloaded from here in English, German, Italian and French.
- Apparently, tomorrow is National Yorkshire Pudding Day in the UK.
- You may have already read about people getting sick in Japan after eating frozen dumplings imported from China. (The 'dumplings' in this case are gyoza.) Pesticides may be the culprit, though the China press says there were no pesticides in tested dumplings.
- While I was researching Japanese grocery stores in Germany for the big Japanese grocery list project, I stumbled upon this great article about Düsseldorf, aka Little Tokyo on the Rhine. You can even take a tour offered by the official tourism office, which explores how this came about. Düsseldorf sounds like a great destination for Euro-based Japanophiles!
- The always interesting European Cuisines has a great article: Why French Fries Aren't French. They really should be called Belgian fries. Includes a detailed recipe for making proper Belgian frietjes.
- These rolled oats, okara and almond bars on Main-Main Masak-Masak look great! Oh, and healthy too.
- Elise has a big Super Bowl recipe roundup on Simply Recipes.
That's it for today. Have a great weekend!
