Real Japanese Cooking is coming

I'm proud to announce the upcoming release of what may be my magnum opus. It is called Real Japanese Cooking. The subtitle is The Only Japanese Cookbook You'll Ever Need - Traditions, Tips, Techniques and Over 600 Authentic Recipes. I've been working on it since 2019, and it's been a real labor of love.

It has more than 600 recipes, on 512 pages, and a lot of side history and interesting notes about Japanese food too. My aim was to include recipes of foods that are popular and widespread in Japan, not just limited to washoku (traditional Japanese cooking). It has chuka (Japanese-style Chinese) as well as yoshoku (western or European style) dishes too. I've sprinkled in some lesser known regional dishes, but it is mostly about dishes that are beloved throughout the country.

I've also put the focus on accessibility. I've minimized the number of dishes where you need to really struggle to get the ingredients together. While there are some ingredients that you'd need to go to a Japanese grocery store from, for most of the dishes you can shop at your regular supermarket, provided you have some essential basics on hand. The ingredient situation does change depending on your location, and Japanese ingredients have become more accessible over the years, so I hope that this book will be useful for a long time.

The book will be released on July 8th, in both hardback physical and e-book formats. Here are some links.

Incidentally, this book does not really get into bentos, although there are lots of onigiri (rice ball) recipes and other bento-appropriate dishes in it. For bento info please continue to look up The Just Bento Cookbook and The Just Bento Cookbook 2.
